You didn't know us.
We were long ago.
A tiny message,
Carved in a tree,
Professing love.
And friendship,
And loyalty,
You know the tree.
All of your life you've
Been among its branches,
Climbing,
Resting,
Learning it as you grow.
But you've never met us.
We've been hidden,
Among twisted branches,
Slippery moss,
Wild leaves,
In a place you hadn't quite been yet.
But we were there.
Long, long ago.
When times were simple,
And we were overjoyed,
smiling,
Happy,
Wanting to tell our story.
And we did.
We told our story,
Etched it quietly,
Silently,
Gently,
But enough to make it stay here.
And now you read.
